Steve Coppola, an Olympic medalist and one of the driving forces on Princeton's most recent heavyweight EARC championship boat, is in his fifth season as an assistant coach with the Princeton open rowing team.
His impact was immediately felt in 2013, as he helped Princeton win both the Ivy V8 and team title at the Ivy League Championships, as well as finish in the Top 3 at the NCAA Championships. Both the V8 and 2V made their respective NCAA finals. Last season, Princeton repeated as Ivy League champion, won silver in the 2V at the NCAA Championships and remained one of the nation's strongest programs in the sport.
Coppola led Princeton to the 2006 EARC/Ivy League title, a silver medal at the IRA national championships, and the No. 1 national ranking. He had an impressive international rowing career, which included a spot on the U.S.A. men’s eight at the 2008 Summer Olympics; Coppola helped the U.S.A. to a bronze medal at the Beijing Games.
