Release: 04/30/2012

Alex Capretta's parents flew in from San Francisco to be part of Senior Night for the Princeon men's lacrosse team.

What they saw was more than just the final regular season home game their son would play.

Capretta scored a career-high five goals to lead Princeton to a 14-9 win over Cornell, a performance that earned him the final Ivy League Player of the Week award - and his team the outright Ivy League championship.

Capretta came into his senior year with eight career goals and two career assists. This season, he now has 19 goals and eight assists for 27 points, nearly three times his previous career total.

By virtue of winning the Ivy League title, Princeton will be the host team and No. 1 seed for this weekend's league tournament, which will determine what team gets the automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

The Ivy event begins Friday when second-seeded Cornell takes on third-seeded Yale, followed by the Tigers and fourth-seeded Brown. The final will be Sunday at noon.

All games will be held on Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium. Tickets can be purchased on goprincetontigers.com or at the ticket window in Jadwin Gym.

Princeton also moved into the Top 10 in both polls, reaching No. 9 in the coaches' poll and No. 10 in the media poll.

Yale and Cornell are both in the top 15 in both polls. Brown is receiving votes.
