Women's Track & Field Defeats Penn in Afternoon Dual

PHILADELPHIA (4/14/12) - The Princeton women's track team defeated Penn in a dual at Franklin Field on Saturday afternoon, 85-77.

Freshman Jackie Nicholas faced Pauline Dabrowski in the steeplechase. Nicholas ran 10:57.08 while Dabrowski was lagging by nearly a minute at 11:43.45.

In the 1500, sophomore Molly Higgins recorded a winning time of 4:31.61 with junior Maggie McKeever coming in second at 4:36.30.

Senior Eileen Moran earned a double win in the 100 and 200.  She was the only sprinter to run the 100 in under 12 seconds as she crossed the tape at 11.93. In the 200 Moran clocked in at 24.54 to take the title.

In the hurdles, junior Joie Hand was the runner-up in the 400 intermediate hurdles at 1:01.70. Sophomore Carrie Vuong was third at 1:04.58. In the short hurdles, sophomores Beth McKenna and Samantha Anderson were third and fourth at 15.63 and 15.93, respectively. McKenna also finished third in the high jump clearing 1.55 meters.

Senior Danielle Glaeser was the runner-up in the 400 with a time of 57.95 with sophomore Kristin Smoot taking fourth at 59.30.

Junior Greta Feldman won the 800 clocking in at 2:06.66 with classmate Alexis Mikaelian third at 2:09.57.

The Tigers went 1-2-3-4 in the 3,000. Senior Alex Banfich competed in her first outdoor meet of the season and was the winner in the 3k at 9:54.25. Junior Abby Levene was second at 9:56.58, junior Abby Hewitt third at 9:59.56 and sophomore. Theresa Devine fourth at 10:16.13

In the relays, Princeton won the 4x400 and was second in the 4x100. The 4x4 posted a winning time of 3:46.02, while the 4x1 was narrowly edged by Penn by 0.23 seconds as the Tigers came around in 46.52.

The Tigers won both the long jump and triple jump. Junior Erin Guty won the long jump reaching 5.72 on her final attempt. Sophomore Imani Oliver was the runner up with a PR of 5.50 and sophomore Lily Miller was third at 5.35. Oliver was the victor in the triple at 11.95 getting the mark three times.

Junior Lauren Tauscher was the runner-up in the pole vault clearing 3.75, and Sarah Waszkewitz took second in the javelin at 37.59.

Sophomore Chelsea Cioffi was the runner-up in the hammer throw and finished third in the discus. Cioffi threw the hammer to 47.64 on her third of six attempts and tossed the discus to 41.17 on her third attempt.

Another big performance in the throws was freshman Nonny Okwelogu who won the shot put and was the runner-up in the discus. Okwelogu threw the shot put to 12.88 on her second throw and reached 43.02 on her fifth attempt of the discus.

Princeton hosts the Larry Ellis Invitational next weekend, April 20-21 at Weaver Stadium.
