PRINCETON, N.J. (4/15/09) – Senior midfielder Holly McGarvie and sophomore goalie Erin Tochihara were named nominees for the 2009 Women’s Tewaaraton Trophy.
McGarvie leads the Tigers in scoring with 35 points off of 21 goals and a team-best 14 helpers. She also leads the team in draw controls, ground balls and caused turnovers. Taking the majority of the draws at the center circle, McGarvie has earned 38 draw controls, picked up 38 ground balls and caused 24 turnovers. She is the only player to be in the top 20 in all three catergories from a nationally-ranked squad, and one of three players, overall.
Tochihara earned the starting position early in the season and has since recorded a 10-1 record. She leads the nation in save percentage with at 57.8 percent, and is third in goals against average, at 7.44. Tochihara has stopped 89 of 154 shots this season.
Princeton is 10-1 overall and is ranked No. 3 in the Inside Lacrosse poll and No.7 in the IWLCA poll. The Tigers are undefeated at 4-0 in the Ivy League. With the fourth-best win percentage in the country, the Tigers rank third in scoring defense and caused turnovers.
The Tigers will take on Penn tonight, April 15, at 7 p.m., in a game that most likely will decide the 2009 Ivy League title.
