Princeton Takes Part in WBCA's Pink Zone This Weekend

PRINCETON, N.J. (2/11/09) - The Princeton women's basketball team will take part in the WBCA's Pink Zone on Friday, Feb. 13 when it hosts Yale at 7 p.m. The following evening, Princeton takes on Brown at 6 p.m. For more information on Pink Zone, check out the Princeton Athletics Web site.

Princeton earned a weekend sweep of Cornell and Columbia last weekend to improve to 8-11 overall and 3-2 in the Ivy League. The Tigers have already succeeded last season’s win total with nine games remaining, and are sitting in third place in the league standings. Sophomore Addie Micir leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game and is chipping in 4.3 rebounds per game. Senior Whitney Downs is second in the scoring column with 10.1 points per game and has a team-high 24 steals. Freshman Devona Allgood leads the team on the glass with 6.1 rebounds per game and also has a team-best 25 blocks. Senior Jessica Berry leads the team in assists with 48, while Micir has 40.
 
Princeton holds a 40-29 lead over Yale in the all-time series and is 23-9 when hosting the Bulldogs on its home court. Last season the teams split the series, with Yale taking a 78-57 game in New Haven before Princeton earned a 64-59 game at Jadwin.

Yale went 0-2 last weekend when it hosted Harvard and Dartmouth. The Bulldogs are looking to it their three-game losing streak this weekend. Overall the squad is 9-11 overall and 2-4 in the Ivy League. Melissa Colborne is the team’s leading scorer with 15.6 points per game. She also leads the team in assists with 57. Haywood Wright and Yoyo Greenwood are averaging 9.9 and 9.6 points per game. Wright leads the team in rebounds with 7.6 per game, while Mady Gobrecht is bringing down 7.0 per game. Gobrecht also leads the team in steals with 32, while Wright has a team-best 33 blocks. The team’s best free throw shooter is Colborne at 83.1 percent, while Jamie Van Horne takes the ball to the outside for 35.4 percent shooting.

Princeton and Yale have one non-league opponent in common, Stony Brook. While the Tigers earned an 88-41 win in late November, Yale lost by five two weeks later. Yale beat Columbia and lost to Cornell while Princeton swept. Both teams dropped games to Harvard and Dartmouth.

Brown is 3-17 on the season and is looking to end a five-game losing streak that dates back to mid-January. The Bears are 1-5 in the Ivy League, with their lone win over Yale in the opener. With 7.0 points per game, Karly Grace is the leading scorer for Brown. She is also one of the team’s best free throw shooters at 86.7 percent, and has the most three pointers on the team with 35. NatalieBonds is chipping in 6.9 points per game, while Hannah Passafuime is right behind with 6.7 points per game. Bonds leads the team in blocks with 23, while Courtney Lee has a team-high 53 steals and 65 assists. Bonds is the team’s leading rebounder with 5.3 boards per game, and Lee follows with 4.5 rebounds per game.

Princeton and Brown both played American this season. The Tigers lost 59-44 and Bears fell by a similar score, 60-43. In the Ivy League, Brown went 0-2 against Cornell and Columbia, while Princeton went 2-0. Both teams lost to Dartmouth and Harvard.
