WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Melissa Saiontz and Hilary Bartlett each won two singles matches Monday to advance to the semifinal round at the ITA Northeast Regional at Yale.
Saiontz, a 17th seed, defeated Stevi Petrelli of Yale and 13th-seeded Kristin Norton of Harvard to earn a semifinal spot against second-seeded Holly Cao of Harvard at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. In the other semifinal will be fifth-seeded Bartlett, who knocked off 17th-seeded Jillian Santos of Binghamton and another 17th seed, Magdalena Ploch of Massachusetts, to earn a match against ninth-seeded Casey Herzberg of Brown at 10:30. A potential all-Princeton final would take place Tuesday afternoon.
Princeton's two doubles teams ended the day with a 1-2 record for Monday's play, with Rachel Saiontz and Monica Chow bowing out in the quarterfinals and top-seeded Bartlett and Taylor Marable advancing before losing in the semifinals.
